UBS is the largest bank in Switzerland and, after absorbing Credit Suisse in 2023, the country’s sole globally systemically important bank. Its expat page walks newcomers through the account setup process in English and explains the difference between private accounts, youth accounts, foreign currency accounts and savings options. The key4 banking packages, launched in 2025, bundle a current account, savings account and prepaid card at no monthly fee for standard use.

Online account opening requires a Swiss residential address and proof of Swiss tax residency, so most people open their account shortly after registering at the commune. Branches across the country can handle in-person onboarding for those who prefer it. The UBS expat booklet, a practical print guide, is available on request and covers the first months of financial life in Switzerland.
