Comparis Driving Licence Exchange Guide

Comparis is Switzerland’s largest comparison portal and its newcomer section covers the licence exchange clearly in English. The page lists the countries whose licences Switzerland recognises without a driving test, which currently includes all EU/EFTA states plus the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Israel.

It also covers the two requirements that catch people by surprise: a Swiss eye test from a certified optician (foreign tests are not accepted) and the 12-month deadline that runs from the date of first residence registration, not the date of arrival. The fee information is approximate since cantons set their own rates, but the guide gives a realistic range and links to the cantonal road traffic offices.
