ZKB is the dominant bank in Zurich and is experienced with expat clients because of the city’s large international population. The English-language online banking and app are available, though the interface defaults to German and some functionality requires switching the language setting manually. For straightforward current accounts and Swiss payment setup, ZKB works reliably and branches are available in every district of the city.

Account opening requires a Swiss residential address and proof of residence registration, so the practical step is to register at the commune first and then visit a branch with the Anmeldebestätigung and passport. Non-residents from some countries pay an annual surcharge of CHF 360; EU residents opening an account shortly after arriving are treated as residents for fee purposes once the permit is issued.
